A Study of Correlations between Self-Disclosure, Marital Satisfaction and Perceived Health Status in the Married Women

Abstract
This study was conducted to acquire the basic data for developing nursing intervention in order to improve married women¢¥s health as a result of identifying correlations between self-disclosure, marital satisfaction and perceived health status.
The subjects for this study were 102 married women who lived in Seoul & Kyungkido.
The data were collected from September 28 to October 20, 1988, by a questionnaire method.
The research tools were Jourard¢¥s self-disclosure questionqire, Handrick¢¥s marital satisfaction questionnaire and Ware¢¥s perceived health status on the base of the literature: The data were ¢¥analyzed using SPSS PC+ and frequency, percentage, t -test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient were used to find statistics and correlation. The results of the study were as follows,
1. Mean of self-disclosure was 2.20, marital satisfaction was 3.07 and perceived health status was 3.14.
2. There was no significant difference between self disclosure, marital satisfaction and general characteristics. But the relationship between general characteristics and perceived health status showed partly significant difference. Education(F=5.949, p<001), income a month (F=5.590, p<001), number of children(F=3.012, p<.01), disease experience(t-2.71,p<.01) resource person(F=5.685, p< 001) were showed significant difference.
3.The correlation between self disclosure, marital satisfaction and perceived status health were as follows.
1) "The higher self disclosure of married women is, the higher marital satisfaction is showed no significant difference. But a low positive correlation between self disclosure and marital satisfaction was found (r=.2095, p>.01).
2) "The higher self disclosure of the married women is, the higher perceived health status is showed no significant difference. But a low positive correlation between self disclosure and perceived health status was found(r= .2128, p>.01).
3) "The higher marital satisfaction of the married women is, the higher perceived health status is." showed a significant difference, and a low positive correlation was found(r=.3793, p<.001).
These results supported partially to the precedent study. From above results, low, positive correlation was found between self disclosure, marital satisfaction and perceived health status. In the further, a, study of correlation between self disclosure, marital satisfaction and perceived health status is needed various studies of many subjects. Arid it is necessary to find nursing strategy to promote self disclosure and marital satisfaction.
